Good People

The world today can be a scary place;
Hard to keep your faith in the human race.
We're runnin' outta trees,
And we're runnin' outta space,
But we'll never run out of good people.

Ask 'em for a shovel,
And they'll dig you a hole.
Put the coffee on,
And drag you in from the cold.
If you get lost,
They'll show you where to go,
Even give you a ride, good people.

Good people aren't hard to find:
They're right around the corner,
At the end of the line, it's true!
Good people got peace of mind,
And I'd like to spend some time with you!
Ooh ooh ooh.

A man ain't nothing if he ain't got a friend,
Down and out without a penny to spend.
The bells above will ring in the end,
For good people.

Good people aren't hard to find:
They're right around the corner,
At the end of the line, it's true!
Good people got peace of mind,

And I'd like to spend some time with you!
Ooh ooh ooh.

Rich and poor are born to be free,
Fly around the world or sail the seven seas.
There ain't no place that I'd rather be,
Then here right now, with good people.

Good people aren't hard to find:
They're right around the corner,
At the end of the line, it's true!
Good people got peace of mind,
And I'd like to spend my time with you!

Good people aren't hard to find:
They're right around the corner,
At the end of the line, it's true!
Ooh ooh ooh.

The world today can be a scary place;
Hard to keep your faith in the human race.
We're runnin' outta trees,
And we're runnin' outta space,
But we'll never run out of good people.

Goofy

There's a guy on Alderwood between Cherrywood and Bennett.  He makes these awesome and yes, goofy, sculptures.  There's a sign that says "Walt's Goofies".  I think his name is Walt.  I'm just guessing.  His phone number, in case you like what you see, is (360) 733-7210.  I have no idea what his prices are but I smile every day when I drive by.  Thank you Walt for making people smile!

National Black Forest Cake Day

Yesterday we Celebrated National Black Forest Cake Day
at the Jones House.
How can a homemade cake
not make your Hippie Heart Happy?
I am LOVING this weekly food celebration thing.
I am sure there will be more pictures to come
of our Celebration of Life in the following weeks.
Enjoy the Day!

Greeting Spring

I love spring anywhere, but if I could choose I would always greet it in a garden.

The Science Fair recap

I didn't get a final count of the projects but there were many.  What I do know is that for the 2nd Annual Science Fair we had twice the parent/family/friend turnout to see the hard work all of the kids put in.  I was super proud of our Alderwood students that participated and their families who supported them.  From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Abby, Sarah, and Kim worked their patoots off and wrote a story, drew storyboards, input code into the Storytelling Alice program, answered their question, and put their board together.  They presented their project to the judge, got their scores, and then got their awesome ribbons.

My dad pushed the restart button for the animation.  We were very proud of him. ;)

Celebrate Life!

I am trying very hard to teach my family that celebrating life is important.
So, we have begun having a weekly food celebration!
This week we celebrated National Chip and Dip Day.
We had homemade potato chips, sweet potato chips, onion dip, Caprese dip, and much more.
Remember to ENJOY life.
Find reasons to gather with people and Celebrate Life!
Enjoy the Day!

Increase the World's Happiness

You have it easily in your power to increase the sum total of this world's happiness now.
How?
By giving a few words of sincere appreciation to someone who is lonely or discouraged.
Perhaps you will forget tomorrow the kind words you say today,
but the recipient may cherish them over a lifetime.

Happy Spring!

March is a tomboy with tousled hair,
a mischievous smile,
mud on her shoes and a laugh in her voice.

Mmmm....Garlic

The Alderwood Garden has garlic growing everywhere.  Yay garlic.  It's so good for you!  This made me smile today.  Before you think that I actually have plant knowledge, I had to ask Becca and Liz if this was garlic while we were doing the garden clean up.  Happy Garlicky Sunday everyone!

Brighter Horizons

Looking to the East,
the Robin spies the dawning of the day.

So peaceful and calm,
Happy with the sight.

No looking for brighter horizons,
Just content with what he sees.

I will try to be the Robin,
Seeing the day for what it is,
and being happy for that gift alone.

Double Post Day?

Not only was Becca's picture of the Fog in the San Juan Islands featured on Earth Science Picture of the Day on October 23, 2010; but it is also featured on the North Olympic Library System's website.  They are discussing Snow Falling on Cedars by David Gutersen and were looking for an iconic (their words, not mine) picture of the San Juan Islands.

I can't tell you how proud I am of her!

Round and Round We Go

ET (not the alien, as in Eye of the Tiger) will find mischief anywhere.  This day he found it when someone didn't shut the dryer all the way.  There were several really great pictures of him but this makes me think of a feral cat who is about to pounce...  I love this cat despite the fact that he does not love me, plays in the water dish, knocks down the dog treats so that the dog gets in trouble, and likes to knock things off the desk while we're not looking, and sometimes when we are.

Happy Irish Day!

May the sun shine, all day long,
everything go right, and nothing wrong.
May those you love bring love back to you,
and may all the wishes you wish come true!

Happy Birthday Kevin!

It took a special day like today for Becca and I to make a post together! Kevin, knowing you has been one of the most unique and amazing experiences of my life! You keep me real and push me to be the best that I can be, even when I push back. I love the way you embrace the kids with all of your heart. Your smile brightens the world and I hope that you wear it as often as possible! Watching you learn about the environment and make so many changes to better it, makes both of our hippie hearts happy! Happiest of Happy Birthdays Kevin! May you have many more and may we always be a part of them! We love you!

Friend

If you're alone, I'll be your shadow.
If you want to cry, I'll be your shoulder.
If you want a hug, I'll be your pillow.
If you need to be happy, I'll be your smile.
But anytime you need a friend,
I'll just be me.

Filter it...just a little bit.

At the beginning of the year, the girls and I made a really cool water filter for science.  At this point in the experiment, the girls are stirring in the soil so that they can watch the sediment settle and the filter start to work.  As we get closer to the science fair, be prepared for more sciencey pictures on my end of things.  The girls have chosen, with their friend Abby, to do computer animation for the science fair this year!  So cool!

To see more pictures from this experiment you can look at my nerdily titled Science photo album.

Silent the blaring sounds

It is only when we silent the blaring sounds of our daily existence that we can finally hear the whispers of truth that life reveals to us, as it stands knocking on the doorsteps of our hearts.  ~K.T. Jong

Waves

The underlying attraction of the movement of water and sand is biological.
If we look more deeply we can see it as the basis of an abstract idea
linking ourselves with the limitless mechanics of the universe.

Dig In

Today was the first of this spring's school garden work parties.  It was a great morning!  A few hours of hard work and there's 4 new compost bins, tomato cages made and put away for later planting, leaves raked, dead stuffies put into the fab new bins, dirt moved, and pretty pansies planted.  Abby was able to come with us this morning for her first garden work party.  She dug right in and planted some gorgeous pansies with Sarah and Kim.

Thank you to (and I hope I don't forget anyone) Liz, Becca, Seth, Sean, Sarah, Shannon, Dave, Abby, Kim, Sarah, Chris, Jameson, and Neysa!

Willow

"The Willow Cats"

They called them pussywillows
But there is no cat to see
Except the little furry toes
That stick out on the tree.

I think that very long ago
When I was just born new
There must have been whole pussycats
Where just the toes stick through.

And every spring it worries me
I cannot ever find
Those willowcats that ran away
And left their toes behind.

Upside Down

I love reflections like this.  It's almost perfect so if you're not paying attention, it looks like the picture is upside down.  I feel a little upside down today so this made me smile.  Have a wonderful Thursday.  It's almost the weekend!

Put a little Love in Your Happy Hippie Heart

Think of your fellowman
Lend him a helping hand
Put a little love in your heart

You see it's getting late
Oh, please don't hesitate
Put a little love in your heart

And the world will be a better place
And the world will be a better place
For you and me, you just wait and you'll see

Another day goes by
Still the children cry
Put a little love in you heart

If you want the world to know
We won't let hatred grow
Put a little love in your heart

And the world will be a better place
And the world will be a better place

For you and me, you just wait and you'll see
Wait and see

Take a good look around
And if you're lookin' down
Put a little love in your heart

I hope when you decide
Kindness will be your guide
Put a little love in your heart

And the world will be a better place
And the world will be a better place
For you and me, you just wait and see

Well, put a little love in your heart
You got to put a little love in your heart
Put a little love in your heart

Put a little love in your heart
Put a little love in your heart
Put a little love in your heart

and Hello March!

From 2009, this pretty (or possibly handsome) and well fed robin is excited to greet Spring.  So, uhm, that's a robin, right?
