Pictionary
We've been trying to have a game night once a week.
On Saturday night we decided on Pictionary. I'm a big fan of horrible drawings and insane laughter.
Can you guess what these are?
*picture is very obviously not taken by the talented Becca but by my phone*

Life
"Old Before Your Time"
When I was a younger man lookin' for my pot of gold
Everywhere I turned the doors were closin'
It took every ounce of faith I had to keep on keepin' on
And still I felt like I was only losin'
I refused then like I do now to let anybody tie me down
And I lost a few good friends along the way
I was raised up poor and I wanted more
And maybe I'm a little too proud
In lookin' back I see a kid who was just
Afraid, hungry and old before his time
Through the years I've known my share of broken hearted fools
And those who couldn't choose a path worth taking
There's nothin' in the world so sad as talking to a man
Who never knew his life was his for making
Ain't it about time you realize? It's not worth keepin' score
You win some, you lose some and you let it go
What's the use of stacking on every failure another stone
Till you find you've spent your whole damn life
Building walls, lonely and old before your time
It took so long to see
That truth was all around me
Now the wren has gone to roost and the sky is turnin' gold
And like the sky my soul is also turnin'
Turnin' from the past, at last and all I've left behind
Could it be that I am finally learnin'?
Learnin' I'm deserving of love and the peaceful heart
I won't tear myself apart no more for tryin'
I'm tired of lyin' to myself, tryin' to buy what can't be bought
It's not livin' that you're doin' if it feels like dyin
Cryin, growin' old before your time
Cryin, growin' old before your time

October Recap
I decided that we should do a recap at the end of each month in a vid. I was going to post the video here as well as youtube but the quality on blogger vid is not great. Here is the link to the October Recap. I would love some feedback.

Thanks
Today is a day for me to give thanks. I won't go into my feelings about the rest of the meaning because I just want to be thankful. I am thankful for so much but it all boils down to 3 things. Family, friends, and the earth I live on. So thank you for being a part of my life!

Home is where my Happy Hippie Heart is.
As Thanksgiving is quickly approaching
I like to reflect on a year past
and the things in my life that I am
Thankful for.
My Home holds so many of the things on that
list.
My Family, my animals, my friends,
Good times, good food, good love,
Happy memories, Happy people, Happiness.
As you reflect back,
What is your Happy Hippie Heart
most Thankful for?
Find it,
Enjoy it,
LOVE

Friends....not food!
Many months ago, B's neighbor built a pig pen and chicken coop.
We were absolutely devastated.
We just knew we were going to watch these sweet little piglets grow up
and one day be made into food for omnivores.
As it happens, the neighbor just loves him some pet pigs, so
the pigs are Friends, not food!
That made my hippie heart happy! Here is one of the sweet little piglets. Not so little anymore, is she?

Peace
Peace is such a simple thing.
It reaches into your soul,
Brings you up a level,
and makes you better.
Nature understands this.
Nature shows us how to live.
We just have to learn to listen.

Don't be afraid to Break the Silence
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
"Fools", said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed
In the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sounds of silence

Some days just need a little sunshine
Some days you need a little sunshine
Some days you need to remember that flowers bloom
Some days you just need something to smile about.
Today, this made me smile.
What makes you smile?

Rainbows make me happy!
Rainbows make me happy.
They are miracles of light refraction.
The legends that surround them fascinate me.
Hey, did you know that they also can infuse tasty cake with their awesomeness?
Becca made this cake a few years ago. It might be time for a repeat performance......

Find your Sock Monkey
We all need something or someone to make us happy.
Sparkle here has found his joy in Bob the sock monkey.
What makes you happy, content, joyful, calm, excited?
Today go out and find it or appreciate it if you already have it.
Find your sock monkey!
Joy is a flower that blooms when you do. ~Author Unknown

Beauty is an ecstasy
Beauty is an ecstasy;
it is as simple as hunger.
There is really nothing to be said about it.
It is like the perfume of a rose:
you can smell it and that is all.

Veterans Day
Regardless of how you feel about war or the military in general,
Thanks deserve to be given to those who do a job I know I could never do.
Thanks to the people who work harder than most and are willing to sacrifice the most precious of things.
Thank you for being brave.
Thank you for trying.
Thank you for being you.
Today my Happy Hippie Heart thanks Dave.
Thank You!

GIVE A DAMN!

One of the best moms that I know
I have taken my life into my own hands with this post. There's a reason that you don't see pictures of B very often. She doesn't take them and can erase a picture faster than you've ever seen.
Becca is a doer and a giver. She will do and give until she has nothing left. Then she'll find a reserve of her love and keep going. Becca has an endless well of love for her kids, her husband, her family, and her friends. She isn't just a mother to her three kids. She's a mother to everyone she knows.
Take a few minutes today to thank your mom. You'll be glad you did. If your mom is no longer with us, then take a few minutes to think about her and how much you love her.
Have a wonderful Monday and a fantastic week everyone!

Seasons
I grew up without seasons so there is a part of me that is still so awed by them. This tree lives down the road from me and I can't help but love it. Someone at some point took the time to graft two trees together for the beauty of it, and oh is it beautiful. The first photo was taken April 22 2010 and the second was taken November 4 2010. My Happy Hippie Heart loves the raw power of what nature can do. So take some time today to notice, look, and love your surroundings.

Light
I love the play of the light and shadow in the trees. It's like a ballet of beauty. It is a calm, trembling on the edge of chaos, not quite ready to let go.

Get out of bed, you daisy head!
In the rush to pick your kids up from school
You rarely look around.
It's a go go go world.
I challenge you.
Stop.
Breathe.
Look.

Oh yes...it's coming.
Now I can't help myself. Something about the snow makes me inherently happy. Peace Dude here is always happy about the weather. He always greets the sun with a smile, the snow with upraised arms, and a storm with stylish clothes and a groovy necklace. Rock On Peace Dude, Rock On! ~S

Teaching
As Parents we like to think we teach our children everyday. Then the day comes when your child teaches you that you have taught them well. I had this great pleasure last Saturday. I was busy doing the morning dos when my Son yelled for me to come and see something out his window. This picture is what he showed me. I am so lucky to have kids that notice the small things in life and find the joy in them as I do. I hope they carry this with them as they continue to grow and become the people they are going to be. Have Happy Hippie Hearts my Children, have Happy Hippie Hearts............
