In the Margin

Play with life, laugh with life, dance lightly with life,
and smile at the riddles of life,

knowing that life’s only true lessons
are writ small in the margin.

Purple Sky

I just wanna drink 'til I'm not thirsty
I just wanna sleep 'til I'm not tired
I just wanna drive 'til I run out of highway
Into the purple sky

But if I'm gonna live until I'm 50
I'm gonna need you by my side
Cuz I don't wanna dance without you with me
Into the purple sky

Forever

Christmas is forever,
not for just one day,
for loving, sharing, giving,
are not to put away
like bells and lights and tinsel,
in some box upon a shelf.
The good you do for others
is good you do yourself...

Happy Birthday Mom

A mother is the truest friend we have,
when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us;
when adversity takes the place of prosperity;
when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us;
when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us,
and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels
to dissipate the clouds of darkness,
and cause peace to return to our hearts.
~Washington Irving

Thank you Mom

Time

The time between Samhain and Yule is, for me, a time for reflection.  Where have I been?  Where am I?  Where am I going?  I was scanning some pictures into the comp. last night and I found the picture on the left.  I knew right then that today's blog would be about time.

When you're a child, time goes by so slowly.  You're never going to be 5, 10, 13, 16, 18, or even 21.
As you get older, and especially once you have kids, you realize that time passes so swiftly.  You're 21, you blink, and you're 36.

Cherish time.  Let it be your friend and not your enemy.  Make the most of every moment you have with those you love.

For those wondering, 1992 Jr. Prom that I dragged Kevin too is on the left and a picture of us at Red Robin in 2009.  17 years apart.  Crazy.  24 years of friendship and I don't see that stopping any time soon.

Not Nice Kids

You taught me to be nice,
so nice that now I am so full of niceness,
I have no sense of right and wrong,
no outrage,
no passion.
~Garrison Keillor

We have done our Youth a great injustice,
by teaching them to always be polite
and not make waves.
These four Beautiful Children
don't have that problem.
Thank Goodness!

(Yes I do know the troubled road we have laid out for ourselves)
(I look forward to it!)

Home

I've heard people say that home is where you go where they have to take you in.
I think home is where they keep the lights on, hoping you'll come back.

Fractions

The advantage of growing up with siblings is that you become very good at fractions.

Happy Birthday Sean

My Dear Sweet Boy.
13 years has gone so fast.
I am so very proud of the man
you are becoming.
Grow, Learn, Love.
Be proud of who you are.
I sure am.

May your troubles be less,
And your blessing be more.
And nothing but happiness,
Come through your door.

One

I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do everything; but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.

Friendship

I blog about friendship a lot here at Happy Hippie Heart.
I blog about friendship because next to my daughter, friendship is the thing that makes my hippie heart happiest.
These are some of the dearest friends in the world and I am so grateful to the universe for bringing them into our lives.
They are weird, funny, sweet, kind, loyal, and just all around stellar people.

Loveth

It is not for him to pride himself who loveth his own country,
but rather for him who loveth the whole world.
The earth is but one country
and mankind its citizens.

Elevating

The secret of happiness
lies in taking a genuine interest
in all the details of daily life,

Definition

The past is our definition.  We may strive, with good reason, to escape it, or to escape what is bad in it, but we will escape it only by adding something better to it.

Simple

Part of the problem today
is that we have a surplus of simple answers
and a shortage of
simple problems.
