Imagination......

With imagination, I can be anything I want. A pirate.  Argh! A football player! Hup! When you use your imagination you can do anything!

Finding ways to ~Let It Go~

You keep your heart above your head and you eyes wide open
So this world can't find a way to leave you cold
And know you're not the only ship out on the ocean
Save your strength for things that you can change
Forgive the ones you can't
You gotta let 'em go
~Zac Brown Band~

I have found that one of the most important things in life is figuring out how to let things go. You can do this mentally, physically, emotionally, and some times you need the symbolism of actually letting something tangible go. When you find a way to do this your hippie heart can be happier and healthier. So, LET IT GO................

Burning into Fall

It's my favorite time of year, fall.
The colors are amazing.
Red, yellow, fire, and gold.

It makes my heart sing to watch nature burn into fall.

I also get to sleep an extra hour and hey, it's a perfectly valid reason to love fall.

Tis the season of Pumpkins

Last Night we had a pumpkin carving/painting party at our house. I love to see the sheer joy that kids and big kids get from the simple traditions of something that has been going on for many generations down the line. My Hippie Heart loves the simplicity, joy, mayhem, and pleasure of time spent together.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Boy am I having a hard time adjusting to the cold this year.  I lost all my pictures last week, so I've been going through my gmail and found this picture of Kim and her friends in Santa Cruz in 2005.  In October.  Where the sun is shining and the high today will be 70.  As I look at the weather report and see a high in the City of Subdued Excitement of 54 today, I long for the warm beaches of anywhere but here........

Look at the fun those girls are having :)  The sheer joy of the beach in October where you can splash in the surf makes my hippie heart so happy.

My Hippie Heart Blesses Susan's Existence Day!

I have the great privilege of having one of the best friends in the whole world. Miss Susan is amazing, beautiful, caring, compassionate, loving, a little evil, fun, awesome, creative, lovable, giving, and just all around FABULOUS! My hippie heart would not be nearly as happy or hippie without her. So today I give my many thanks, heart, soul, and love to Miss Susan!

Sea of Pumpkins

Becca, Seth, and I took the kiddos to Boxx Berry Farms today to pick pumpkins.  We always have a good time between picking pumpkins, watching the trebuchet, riding the train, and looking at all the amazing stuff that they sell.  So, if you haven't gone out yet, you should go visit Mike and the others out at the farm.

Fog in the San Juan Islands

My Happy Hippie Heart loves to share my love of the world with other people. I have the great privilege of having one of my pictures featured on Earth Science Picture of the Day today! Enjoy!

Happy Froggy Heart

Part of what I love about Becca's house is the wildlife.  We see eagles, hawks, blue herons, salamanders, dragonflies, all sorts of birds that I can't name, deer, rabbits, and terrifying, scary frogs.  Okay, not really terrifying or scary to anyone but me, because I have a thing about frogs.  I like them more than a teacher I know but they scare me.  This frog loves to come visit us on the porch and darn if it isn't adorable.  He hangs out for a while, hops around, visits with us (which on my end involves squealing and trying not to sound girly), and then hops off on his merry way.

Quiet your mind and listen to your Happy Hippie Heart

I hear the waves
Sun beatin' down on my shoulders
It's a near-perfect day
Wishin' I wouldn't get any older
They say that it's gone 'fore you know it now

Quiet your mind
Soak it all in
It's a game you can't win
Enjoy the ride

I feel the change
Goin' on all around me
It's strange
How I'm taken and guided
Where I end up right I'm needed to be

Quiet your mind
Soak it all in
It's a game you can't win
Enjoy the ride

At the end of the water
A red sun is risin'
And the stars are all goin' away
And if you're too busy talkin'
You're not busy listenin'
To hear what the land has to say

Quiet your mind

I hear the waves
Sun beatin' down on my shoulders
It's a near-perfect day
Wishin' I wouldn't get any older
They say that it's gone 'fore you know it and
Soak it all in
It's a game you can't win
Enjoy the ride

Sunrise through her eyes

I'm so rarely up to see the sunrise.  It comes awfully early which is a shame because it is a thing of beauty.  Some mornings, it announces itself with fanfare as if to say "Look at me world!  I'm here and I am bringing you life".  Other days, it creeps quietly over the hills, through the trees, and brushes you gently, comforting.

I am fortunate enough that Becca is up everyday to greet the sun.  Even more fortunate when she takes pictures like this:

Finding the Lighter side

Part of having a Happy Hippie Heart is looking for the good and not dwelling on the bad in life. There is always going to be that dark cloud on the horizon but I choose to see the sunshine and white clouds. I find that life looks sunnier if you do.

Environmental Lessons

In science last week, my daughter and I  learned about Aquifers.  An aquifer is where groundwater collects in permeable rock and soil between two layers of impermeable rock.  Well water is filled from aquifers.  When the rock and soil around an aquifer is unpolluted, it's wonderful water for everyone.

When people pollute the ground around an aquifer, it's no more water for anyone.

This was after 15 minutes of the "pollution" being introduced into Kim's aquifer.  After 24 hours, everything was green.  It was a huge lesson in how something that everyone takes for granted, like groundwater, can be destroyed in such a small time frame.

So, please don't dump your chemicals, your garbage, your dirty car oil, or anything else.  Take care of your waste responsibly.

Earth Day 2009

The kids school did an Earth Day cleanup last year of the school grounds.  This is the 4 kids about to clean up the garbage that people throw all over the place.

Picking up trash should really make everyone's hippie heart happy!

LOVE

I try hard each day to look around and see the beauty and love that surrounds us. It can be hard to do when your world feels like it is crashing in around you but if you try it makes it easier. So my hippie heart challenges you to take a minute today and find the beauty and love that surrounds you.

Watership Down

I'm not the only one who likes my leafy greens.  This adorable hare at Larrabee is making sure he's clear to chow down.  One of the reasons I love Larrabee so much is because you see things like this that make your spirit and hippie heart leap for joy.

Ordinary Day

In this beautiful life there's always some sorrow
And it's a double-edged knife but there's always tomorrow
Oh you know
It's up to you now if you sink or swim,
Just keep the faith and your ship will come in
It's not so bad

And I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day
And it's all your state of mind
At the end of the day, you've just got to say,
I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day
And it's all your state of mind
At the end of the day, you've just got to say,
it's alright
'Cause it's alright, it's alright
'Cause I've got a smile on my face and I've got four walls around me

The Loch Ness Monster

Okay, not really.  This is out at Larrabee State Park.  It's a gorgeous picture though and Kimmie and I decided that today, this made our hippie hearts happy!  Unless otherwise noted, all the pictures that appear in this blog are taken by Rebecca Jones.  Those tasty tomatoes were grown by her as well! :)

10/10/10 People are Amazing!

Yesterday I had the great privilege of participating in a wonderful, awe inspiring, make you feel good about the world, happy hippie heart thing. 350.org and Transition Whatcom had a 10-10-10 World Wide Day of Action in Whatcom County gathering. It was AMAZING how many people turned out to help. The Alderwood's School garden looks amazing. THANK YOU to everyone who helped my hippie heart not just be happy but soar!

A Hummer and a Turbine......

Now this I don't understand.  Is the wind turbine to save the money in electricity that they're spending in gas?  Somehow, this does not make my hippie heart happy...  Which leads me to one of my favorite sites http://www.fuh2.com/

Taking the time to make the world smile.

I can't help but smile every time I see this mailbox. Taking a little bit of time and thought to make something beautiful is ALWAYS worth it. Thank you Yellow Submarine Mailbox for making my hippie heart happy!

Inspiration

Every day I drive my kids to school and get to see this beautiful wind turbine. It was my inspiration for this blog,
IT MAKES MY HIPPIE HEART SOAR!
I will be posting pictures of the things that make me feel good all the way from my happy hippie heart down to my happy hippie toes. I hope you enjoy!
